    The paper aims to illustrate the nature and modeling of aggregates, whose understanding was a slow process. Aggregates, due to the complexity of their modeling, were only briefly discussed in the conceptual model Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records.The Working Group on Aggregates represents the most in-depth examination attempt; the Final Report of 2011 deserves credit for giving a clear definition of aggregate and distinguishing three types, proposing a modeling consistent with FRBR.The IFLA Library Reference Model incorporates the results of the Working Group and expands on certain aspects. Particularly worthy of mention, the model offers a solution for modeling serials, the type of aggregates that presents some peculiarities and complexities.

    Il contributo si propone di illustrare la natura e la modellizzazione degli aggregati, la cui comprensione è stata un processo lento. Gli aggregati, a causa della complessità della loro modellizzazione, furono solo brevemente trattati nel modello concettuale Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records. Il tentativo di esame più approfondito è rappresentato dal Working Group on Aggregates, il cui Rapporto finale del 2011 ebbe il merito di dare una definizione chiara di aggregato e di distinguerne tre tipologie fondamentali, proponendo una modellizzazione coerente con FRBR. Il modello IFLA Library Reference Model recepisce i risultati del Gruppo di Lavoro e ne approfondisce alcuni aspetti. Tra le novità, il modello offre una soluzione per la modellizzazione dei seriali, una tipologia di aggregati che presenta alcune specificità e problematicità.
