Desenvolvimento Sustentável em Moçambique 2001-2014: Evolução ou Retrocesso

    The purpose of this research is to analyse the steps and progress towards the goals of Sustain-able Development in the Mozambican territory, in the period from 2001 to 2014, through the application of the Sustainability Barometer (SB). The SB is a method of two-dimensional analysis that includes two subsystems, the human and the environmental, and it is from these subsystems that synthetic indices called the "environmental and human welfare index" are calculated. The study consisted of a bibliographical survey, where 40 indicators were selected. From this number, 16 were social indicators, 4 economic, 5 institutional and 15 were environmental indi-cators. The results revealed that Mozambique is at a "Potentially Unsustainable" level, in 2014, compared to the "unsustainable condition", in 2001, showing little progressin achieving socio-economic and environmental well-being, which indicates the fragility in meeting the MDG tar-gets, set by 2015.

    O objectivo desta pesquisa é analisar os está-gios e os avanços para o alcançe das metas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável em Moçambique, no período de 2001 a 2014, através da aplicação do Barômetro de Sustentabilidade (BS), método de análise bidimensional, que inclui dois subsis-temas, o humano e o ambiental, apartir dos quais são calculados os índices sintéticos, conhecidos por "índice de bem-estar ambiental e humano". O estudo consistiu em levantamento bibliográfico, em que foram selecionados 40 indicadores: 16 sociais,4 económicos, 5 institucionais e 15 ambientais. Os resultados mostraram que Moçambique está no nível "potencialmente insustentável", em 2014, em comparação com a condição "insustentável, 2001", o que demonstra pouco progresso na obtenção de bem-estar soci-oeconómico e ambiental. Isto indicia a impossibidade de atingir as metas dos ODMs definidas até 2015.
