Resumen de Industria y suburbios. El proceso de industrialización en la periferia metropolitana madrileña. El caso de Getafe (1898-1936)

Desde finales del siglo XIX hasta la Guerra Civil española, Madrid y los municipios de su entorno fueron transformándose e integrándose gradualmente en un tejido urbano común que superó los tradicionales límites territoriales municipales, esto es en un área metropolitana. Dentro de esta área metropolitana, determinados municipios rurales sufrieron un proceso de suburbanización auspiciado tanto por la llegada de inmigrantes como por la especialización funcional de sus economías. Debido a ello, en el presente artículo se ha estudiado el grado de desarrollo industrial de la periferia metropolitana madrileña en general y del municipio de Getafe en particular, con el objetivo de constatar tanto las diferencias que existieron entre el centro y la periferia como la manera en que se manifestó la industrialización en los suburbios metropolitanos.

Since the end of the 19th century to the Spanish Civil War, Madrid and its surrounding areas were transformed and integrated into a common urban union that exceeded the traditional municipal limits, that is in a metropolitan area. Within this metropolitan area, some rural towns suffered a process of suburbanisation caused by the arrival of immigrants and by the functional specialization of their economies. Due to this, in this article I have studied the degree of industrial development of the Madrid metropolitan periphery in general and of the town of Getafe in particular, with the aim of proved the differences between the center and the periphery and the way in which industrialization was manifested in the metropolitan suburbs.
