Gumersindo de Azcárate fue, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los principales impulsores de la reforma social llevada a cabo en España desde finales del siglo diecinueve. Referente de la corriente krausoinstitucionista, Azcárate demostró un claro interés por el problema social y la necesidad de erradicarlo. Un interés que se manifestó tanto en el plano teórico, con un análisis del problema social en el que la asociación constituía una vía para su resolución, como en el práctico, gracias a su participación en instituciones como la Comisión de Reformas Sociales y, muy especialmente, el Instituto de Reformas Sociales, que presidió hasta su muerte en 1917.
Gumersindo de Azcárate was, without a doubt, one of the main promoters of the social reform carried out in Spain since the end of the nineteenth century. Regarding the krausoinstitutionist current, Azcárate showed a clear interest in the social problem and the need to eradicate it. An interest that manifested both on a theoretical level, with an analysis of the social problem in which the association was a way to resolve it, as well as in the practical one, thanks to its participation in institutions such as the Commission of Social Reforms and, especially , the Institute of Social Reforms, who presided until his death in 1917.
