Vegetales y animales en Gibraltar según historiadores y viajeros. La transformación del paisaje

    Gibraltar, ciudad, territorio y aguas circundantes tan ricos en acontecimientos históricos y tan visitados por viajeros de todos los tiempos, ha despertado desde siempre por su riqueza biológica el interés de no pocos.

    Así, en la mayoría de las historias completas como en libros de viajes referidos a este apéndice meridional aparece dicha materia aun cuando sus autores no sean especialistas en Biología.

    Como complemento a lo anterior parece obligado incluir además descripciones -de los mismos escritores citados y también de otros más cercanos a las ciencias de la Naturaleza- del medio físico y del paisaje que conocieron o estudiaron y de cómo éste había sido modificado.

    Concluye la Comunicación con una breve toponimia relativa a animales y vegetales.

    Being a town, territory and surrounding waters so rich in historical events and so much visited for travelers through the ages, Gibraltar has always revived for her biological richness, the interest of quite a number of people. In this way, most of general histories and some travelers´ books relative to this southern extremity include such subject matter though Biology is not the special field of the authors.

    Complementary to all aforementioned it looks unavoidable to include also descriptions, by the same writers as well as from others closer to Natural Sciences, of the environment and the landscape that they knew or studied and the way the latter had been altered.

    This paper finishes with a short toponymy of animals and plants.
