In latest years has increased the almond cultivation in the Guadalquivir Valley (S Spain), due to its response to water stress. During two seasons (2017–2018) the productivity of 3 almond varieties (‘Guara’, ‘Marta’ and ‘Lauranne’) was studied at different water regimes: i) control, irrigated at 100% ETC (C); ii) irrigation in excess at 150% ETC (150– ETC); and iii) controlled deficit irrigation (RDC65), irrigated at 100% ETC during the entire irrigation period with the exception of the grain filling stage that was at 65% ETC. The tree water status was monitored through water potential (Yleaf) and stomatal conductance (gS). Almond varieties ‘Guara’ and ‘Lauranne’ did not show improvements in production at 150–ETC, in contrast to ‘Marta’. Likewise, there was a greater stomatal control of ‘Marta’. Therefore, there was a clear difference in the response of varieties, being necessary to define the irrigation strategy and the stress thresholds according to the variety.
