El duque de Rivas fue uno de los más destacados escritores del siglo XIX que representaron el nuevo modelo diplomático fijado en Francia con Chateaubriand. El objetivo de este trabajo es documentar con textos inéditos del poeta su estancia como diplomático en Nápoles, pero, sobre todo, hacer evidente la repercusión del nuevo modelo diplomacia-literatura en un género apenas estudiado en el que participan el hombre, el político y el literato. Las crónicas diplomáticas de Rivas, Alcalá Galiano o Valera, entre otros, constituyen un importante legado tanto histórico como literario, un gran corpus —hoy todavía inédito y desconocido— de indispensable valor para el estudio de nuestros escritores más internacionales.

The duque de Rivas was one of the most outstanding writers of the nineteenth century who represented the new diplomatic model set in France by Chateaubriand. The aim of this work is to document with some unpublished texts of the poet his stay as a diplomat in Naples, but, above all, to make evident the repercussion of the new diplomacy-literature model in a barely studied genre in which the man, the politician and the writer take part. The diplomatic chronicles of Rivas, Alcalá Galiano and Valera, among others, constitute an important legacy, both historical and literary, a great corpus —today still unpublished and unknown— of indispensable value for the study of our most international writers and of the History of the century XIX.
