En el invierno de 1940, la anulación del desembarco alemán en Inglaterra hizo que ese otoño se impusiera la decisión estratégica de conseguir la derrota británica mediante la aplicación de la denominada estrategia periférica, cuyas dos operaciones terrestres clave eran la ayuda a Italia para tomar Alejandría y la conquista del peñón de Gibraltar.
En el otoño-invierno de 1940, mientras se negociaba la participación de España en la guerra, el Estado Mayor Estratégico (OKW) y el Estado Mayor del Ejército (OKH) pusieron en marcha el proceso de planificación de “Félix”, la operación para tomar Gibraltar. Dentro de este proceso, uno de sus elementos esenciales era el despliegue de un nuevo cerco artillero.
En este trabajo se reconstruirá a partir de material del BA-Militärarchiv de Friburgo (Alemania), por primera vez, el proceso de planificación de este cerco y los organismos directamente implicados en el mismo. Además, conoceremos a los máximos responsables de ese trabajo y la forma en que canalizaron la “participación” española en el mismo. Reconstruiremos su orden de batalla completo, su organización táctica, de transmisiones y su estructura de mando. Finalmente ofreceremos una comparativa con otros grandes cercos artilleros que se aplicaron durante la II Guerra Mundial.

In the winter of 1940, the cancellation of the German landing in England made that autumn the strategic decision to get the British defeat by applying the so-called peripheral strategy to be imposed; whose two key ground operations were helping Italy to take Alexandria and the conquest of the Rock of Gibraltar.
In the autumn-winter of 1940, while the participation of Spain in the war was negotiated, the strategic Staff (OKW) and the General Staff of the Army (OKH) launched the planning process of “Félix”, the operation to take Gibraltar. Within this process, one of its essential elements was the deployment of a new artillery siege.
In this work and from the material BA-Militärarchiv Freiburg (Germany), the process of planning of this siege and the agencies directly involved in it will be reconstructed for the first time. In addition, we will meet the heads of the job and how they channeled the Spanish “participation” in it. We will rebuild their full battle order, its tactical organization, transmission and command structure. Finally we will offer a comparison with other major gunners fences that were applied during the Second World War.
