Resumen de La librairie Champion, correspondante de l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans pour la France (1909-1936)

The Parisian bookstore and publisher Honoré Champion nourished a close relationship with the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and the Biblioteca de Catalunya, two institutions arising in Barcelona in the early twentieth century with the aim of fostering modern research. La Librairie Champion was quick to collaborate actively in disseminating Catalan publications in France, while at the same time supplying bibliography for research conducted in Catalonia. This article examines the correspondence conserved in Barcelona between the Catalan institutional tandem and the Frenchs bookstore-publisher with a view to exploring their commercial relations: co-publishing projects, distribution policy, sales dealings, etc. Moreover, the article spotlights in particular the most personal aspects of the relationship: the attitude of Édouard Champion at the head of the business; Catalan researchesrs ant their visits to Paris; relations with other French scholarly institutions, and so on. Finally, we turn to the crisis that confonted the Paris-based publisher and the gradual decline of the relationship.

Pendant plus de vingt-cinq ans, la Librairie Honoré Champion, libraririe et maison d'édition parisienne, maintint une étroite relation avec l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans et la Biblioteca de Catalunya, deux institutions nées à Barcelone pendant les premières années du XXe sciècle pour favoriser et moderniser la recherche. La Librairie Champion apporta immédiatement une collaboration efficace: elle joua un rôle actif dans la diffusion des publications catalanes en France et pourvut en bibliographie la recherche qui se faisait en Catalonge. L'article analyse la correspondance conservée à Barcelone entre ces institutions et la libraririe-maison d'édition et explore plusieurs aspects de leur relation commerciale: propositions de coédition, conditions de distribution, traitement commercial, etc. Mais l'article s'arrête surtout sur les aspects les plus personnels de cette collaboration: l'attitude du responsable de l'entrepprise, Édouard Champion; les visites de chercheurs catalans à Paris: les liens établis avec d'autres institutions savantes françaises, etc. Finalment, il expose les crises auxquelles dut faire face l'entreprise parisienne et la façon dont prit fin cette relation.
