San Raimundo de Fitero fue el primera abad del primer monasterio de la península Ibérica y también el fundador de la Orden Militar de Calatrava, en el reino de Castilla. Dicho monasterio acabó formando parte del reino de Navarra y, desde poco después de su fundación hasta poco antes de la anexión de este reino a la Corona de Castilla, o sea, entre mediados del siglo XII y finales del siglo XV, se mantuvieron relaciones importantes entre la Orden Militar de Calatrava y el reino de Navarra. Unos vínculos que quizá han pasado desapercibidas o no se les ha dado la importancia que su revisión pone de manifiesto, hasta el punto de que resulte necesario su replanteamiento.

San Raimundo of Fitero was the first abbot of the first monastery of the Iberian Peninsula and also the founder of the Military Order of Calatrava, in the kingdom of Castile. This monastery ended up being part of the kingdom of Navarre and, from shortly after its foundation until shortly before the annexation of this kingdom to the Crown of Castile, that is, between the middle of the 12th century and the end of the 15th century, significant relationships were maintained between the Military Order of Calatrava and the Kingdom of Navarre. Links that may have gone unnoticed or not been given the relevance that its revision makes clear, to the point that it is necessary to rethink it.
