Geochemical prospecting has been mainly employed in the evaluation of economic potential ofmetallic and other substances' acummulations, but its methodology and techniques can be succesfully applied to environmental studies. In this paper the methodology of geochemical prospecting has been applied to the study and caracterization of Cadmium and Zinc dispersion in the fine river sediments of Huerva river (Iberian Range, Spain) and its tributaire channels and to evaluate the environmental impact of these two heavy metals. For these purposes 211 samples of fine river sediments were collected along the river and its contents in Cadmium and Zinc were analyzed from a "total nitric extraction". After this, the analytic results were statystically interpreted by means of log-probability graphs and trend surfaces' method in order to select the background and thresold values and to identify the posible geochemical anomalies, its environmental impact and its main sources.
