    • The monograph submitted by the french geologist Alfred Dereims (1898) on the geology of southern Aragon (central-northeastern Spain) "Recherches géologiques dans le sud de TA ragon" as a doctoral thesis on June 30th 1898 and published this year in Lille, was a remarkable work which caused a profound impresion and a pervasive influence on the geologists working in this region during the XXth century. This was mainly due to its 'modern'approach in both litho and chronostratigraphic analyses and interpretative development in contrast with the generally descriptive style of former authors. On what concerns the Jurassic sections an important feature was his accuracy and precision in fossil collecting, recording stratigraphic successions and setting palaeontological determinations. For this he counted with the collaboration of his master and specialist colleagues. These reasons make his monograph a basic reference work to all subsequent authors in the first half of the XXth century, clearly above other regional stratigraphic monographs published during the last third of the XIXth century. At this point, his selection of classical jurassic sections, from the region of Calanda-Torrevelilla to the south of Sierra de Albarracin, marked a clear path to subsequent studies until recent times.
