En el presente artículo editamos el texto árabe de “La fábula del león y su corte” según un manuscrito procedente de Filipinas preservado en el Arxiu Històric S. J. de Catalunya. Comparamos el texto con los apólogos del Kalila waDimna y el Maŷānī al-adab fī-ḥadā’q al-‘arab, y lo traducimos al castellano. Investigamos las posibles circunstancias de la aparición de este cuento en un manuscrito filipino, para reflexionar sobre el mensaje político y socioeducativo que transmite el relato personificado en animales. Finalmente, destacamos el impacto que ha tenido este género narrativo en la literatura y la filosofía, y como herramienta en la labor misionera jesuítica.

The purpose of this article is to edit the Arabic text of “The Fable of the Lion and his Court” according to a manuscript from the Philippines preserved in the Arxiu Històric S. J. de Catalunya. The text of this manuscript was compared with the texts included in the fables of Kalila wa-Dimna and the treatise Maŷānī al-adab fī-ḥadā’q al-‘arab, in order to present a new translation from the Arabic original into Spanish. The research aspect is focused on the circumstances of the appearance of this fable in a Filipino manuscript in order to reflect on the political and socio-educational message conveyed by the story when utilizing animals as personification figures. In addition, we highlight the impact that this narrative genre has had on literature and philosophy, even as a resource used by the Jesuits in their missionary work.
