Localización de la Banca Extranjera en España. Un análisis por provincias

    El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la localización por provincias de la Banca Extranjera instalada en España en el período 2000-2015, atendiendo a la forma de instalación elegida, filiales o sucursales, al papel desempeñado por Madrid y Barcelona en tanto que centros financieros, y a la influencia de la crisis económica. Utilizando la técnica de Datos de Panel, los resultados indican que la presencia de Oficinas se relaciona positivamente con el tamaño del mercado financiero de cada provincia, y negativamente con su grado de apertura comercial al exterior, tanto para Filiales como para Sucursales. En lo relativo a Madrid y Barcelona, los resultados muestran una fuerte significatividad para ambas dummies, aunque con signo positivo para Madrid y negativo para Barcelona. Finalmente, la incidencia de la crisis resulta significativa y positiva, signo contrario al esperado, y que se debe a la entrada de Venezuela en el grupo de Banca Extranjera. Para la forma jurídica de Filiales la dummy crisis resulta significativa y positiva, cambiando a signo negativo si excluimos a Venezuela de la muestra, en tanto que, para la forma jurídica de Sucursales, el resultado tiene signo negativo, pero no alcanza significatividad, indicando que la crisis no afecta a este tipo de Entidades

    The aim of this study is to analyse the location by provinces of foreign banks operating in Spain for the period between the year 2000 and 2015, based on their chosen legal format, namely subsidiaries or branches, the role played by Madrid and Barcelona as financial centres and the impact of the economic crisis. The results, which were obtained using the Panel Data technique, indicate that offices are a positive variable in relation to the size of the financial market in each province, and negative in terms of the amount of foreign trade for both subsidiaries and branches. In the case of Madrid and Barcelona, the results are highly significant for both dummies, albeit in a positive sense in the case of Madrid and a negative one for Barcelona. Finally, the impact of the crisis was also found to be significant and, contrary to expectations, positive, a factor that is attributable to the entry of Venezuela in the Foreign Bank group. The dummy crisis was found to be significant and positive for subsidiary legal status. However, excluding Venezuela from the sample produces a negative result. Although branch legal status is negative, it is not significant, therefore indicating that the crisis has not affected this type of organisation
