    Durante siglos el Pirineo funcionó como un espacio integrado con abundantes interrelaciones entre los habitantes de ambas vertientes. A pesar de que este espacio era una frontera interestatal no ejercía funciones de separación para los habitantes pirenaicos. Estos desarrollaron un complejo sistema de interrelaciones de forma que podemos identificar a la frontera pirenaica como un lugar de encuentro, no de separación. Estas sociedades tradicionales organizaron conjuntamente la gestión de los recursos naturales limítrofes. Cuando esta gestión ocasionaba conflictos fueron capaces de elaborar auténticos tratados, conocidos como facerías, para solucionarlos y garantizar una gestión conjunta del espacio.

    For centuries the Pyrenees functioned as an integrated area with plenty of interrelations between the inhabitants of both slopes. Although this space was an interstate border, it did not exert separation functions for the inhabitants of the Pyrenees. People developed a complex system of interrelations so that we can identify the Pyrenean border as a place of meeting, not of separation. These traditional societies jointly organized the management of bordering natural resources. When this management caused conflicts, they were able to elaborate authentic treaties, known as facerías, to solve them and guarantee a joint management of the space.

    Pirinioek mendeetan zehar espazio bateratu modura funtzionatu zuten, bi isurietako biztanleen artean harreman usuak izan zirelarik. Espazio hori bi estaturen arteko muga zen arren, ez zuen bereizte funtziorik betetzen Pirinioetako biztanleentzat. Elkarren arteko harremanak indartzeko sistema konplexu bat eratu zuten, eta horri esker, Pirinioetako muga topagune bezala identifikatzen dugu eta ez bereizgune modura.
