    La guerra de la Cuádruple Alianza (1717-1720) enfrentó a España contra todas las grandes potencias europeas. Pese al vínculo dinástico existente, Francia entró en la guerra con las demás potencias, invadiendo España a través de los Pirineos en una campaña dirigida por el duque de Berwick. El enfrentamiento entre las dos monarquías borbónicas se dio por las diferencias entre Felipe V y su tío el duque de Orleans, regente de Francia tras la muerte de Luis XIV. La invasión francesa amenazó al gobierno español en la frontera mediante insurrecciones en las provincias vascas y Cataluña, pero la mayor parte de la población, incluido el reino de Navarra, se mantuvo leal.

    In the War of the Quadruple Alliance (1717-1720), Spain faced all the great European powers. Despite their dynastic bond, France sided with the other powers against Spain and an army under the Duke of Berwick invaded the Pyrenean border. The problems of Philip V with his uncle, the Duke of Orleans, regent of France after the death of Louis XIV, led to the struggle between the two Bourbon kingdoms. The French invasion threatened the Spanish control over the border regions with uprisings in Catalonia and the Basque Provinces. However, most of the population, including the Kingdom of Navarre, stayed loyal.
