A clear relationship exists between the kaolinite content of the mid-Domerian to mid-Toarcian rocks of the Algarinejo section and the emersion at the same time of the Loma de las Ventanas section sorne 10 km away. A model is proposed for the evolution of the palaeogeography where karstification and pedogenetic processes took place on islands within the passive continental margin, which in turn influenced the elay-mineral composition of the nearby pelagic deposits.
