La Isla sagrada de Venus Marina. Un antiguo referente sacro para la navegación en la Bahía de Cádiz

    En la actualidad, es indudable la afamada trascendencia de la Bahía de Cádiz, como hito geográfico para la navegación, la cual reunía, desde la antigüedad, unas inmejorables condiciones portuarias. El continuo trasiego de naves por sus aguas, requería, por parte del marino, de un profundo conocimiento de esta y sus costas. Es por ello que en la Bahía documentamos determinados hitos en el litoral que posiblemente ayudarían al navegante para acceder, salir o simplemente desplazarse por esta amplia rada. Un ejemplo de ello, es el que estudiamos en este trabajo, la famosa isla consagrada a Venus Marina citada por Avieno y que la tradición historiográfica ha identificado con la célebre isla de Erytheia. Analizando su utilidad náutica y su característica topografía, hemos podido determinar que dicha isla del archipiélago gaditano, constituía un referente para navegar; y además, un componente del sistema de señalización costera en el ámbito de la Bahía

    At present, the famous transcendence of the Bay of Cádiz is undoubted, as a geographical milestone for navigation, which brought together, since Antiquity, unbeatable port conditions. The continuous transfer of ships by its waters, required, on the part of the sailor, a deep knowledge of this and its coasts. In the Bay of Cadiz we documented some landmarks on the coast that could possibly help the navigator to access, exit or simply move around this wide road. An example of this is the famous island consecrated to Venus Marina cited by Avieno. Which, the historiographical tradition has identified with the famous island of Erytheia. Analyzing its nautical utility and its characteristic topography, we have been able to determine that this island of the Cadiz archipelago, constituted a reference to navigate; and also, a component of the coastal signaling system in the area of the Bay of Cádiz
