Javier Ramajo Cordero, Marcos Aurell Cardona, Graciela Delvene, Isabel Pérez Urresti

  • This work presents a stratigraphical paleontological and sedimentological sinthesis of the Callovian-Oxfordian rocks of the Oliete-Torre de las Areas area. Callovian facies consits of bioclastic and peloidal wackestones, that belong to Bullatus subzone (lower Callovian). Above the lower Callovian is found the so-called Arroyofrio bed, that is represented for two levels of wackestones limestones with ferrugineous oolites and mostly reworked ammonoids. Both leves are middle Callovian and lower Oxfordian in age. In the middle and upper Oxfordian rocks, three facies have been are caracterized: sponges wackestones, bioclastic and sponge packstones, and peloidal and bioclastic packstones. The lateral distribution of these three facies is irregular, and is controlled by for the special paleogeographic situation of this area.
