    There are societies in that the linguistic phenomenon ‘thename’ receives great respect. This is because attribution ofthe name is cultural and arises from the socio-anthropologicalneed of the human being. We attribute names to animate andinanimate beings, visible and invisible at all times (TIMBANE & COELHO, 2018). Cultulinguistic studies the relations between culture and linguistics of a people or ethnic group. The present research aims at analyzing and discussing the attribution of the name in the culture of the Bakongo of Angola. It is a bibliographical research that the search for and collectionof information from parents, grandparents and elders sought tounderstand the meanings that the name carries. After analysisit was concluded that the name carries elements of the culturein addition to transmitting a Bakong sociocultural identity.

    Há sociedades que o fenômeno linguístico ‘nome’ recebe um grande respeito. Isso acontece porque atribuição do nome é cultural e surge da necessidade socioantropológica do ser humano. Atribuímos nomes a seres animados e inanimados, visíveis e invisíveis à todo momento (TIMBANE & COELHO, 2018). A cultulinguística estuda as relações entre a cultura e linguística de um povo ou grupo étnico. A presente pesquisa visa analisar e discutir a atribuição do nome na cultura dos bakongo de Angola. É uma pesquisa bibliográfica que a partir da busca e coleta de informações dos pais, avós e anciões buscou-se compreender os significados que o nome carrega. Após análise concluiu-se que o nome carrega elementos da cultura para além de transmitir uma identidade sociocultural bakongo.
