Resumen de Perspectivas económicas en la comarca del Bajo Segura

El artículo analiza el proceso de desagrarización y el creciente peso que están tomando las actividades turísticas e industriales desde los años ochenta, destacando las desconomías externas y conflicto de intereses en ese proceso. Se tipifican los municipios por su especialización productiva y su pertenencia a mercados laborales de ámbito supralocal, reflejando el antagonismo entre Orihuela y Torrevieja. Por último, se estudian los déficits en los recursos endógenos para el desarrollo de la comarca: la articulación territorial, dotación de recursos colectivos e infraestructuras, base exportadora, empresas innovadoras y los servicios a las empresas. Se destaca el papel subalterno del Bajo Segura frente a las comarcas vecinas más adelantadas.

This article analyses the process of emigration from rural areas to cities and urban areas and the increasing importance tourism and industry have had since the eighties. It highlights the uneven distribution of wealth in these areas compared to rural areas and also highlights the conflict of interests of this process. Tbis study characterises dif.ferent municipalities of the "Bajo Segura'~ in Alicante, This characterisation is made according to production, and according to the jobs they offer people living in the surrounding area. Two extremes of these categories are Orihuela and Torrevieja. The last part of the article looks at the lack of internal resources for the development of this area: i.e. the road network, communal seroices, exports, innovative companies etc. This study highlights the secondary role of the "Bajo Segura" compared with more advanced neighbouring regions.
