This paper reviews the significance of the body as applied to understanding both the praxis of Social Gerontology. We start by looking at the disciplinary dominance of bio-medical models in understanding bodily change through later life. We then move our analysis to the relative absence of theoretical models within social gerontology that have attempted to analyse social explanations of the body. The paper questions the notion of the body and attempts to link its understanding to epistemological insights deriving from wide social theory
