    El objetivo de este artículo es el estudio de los papeles pintados de la torre de los Varona. Tras unas consideraciones generales sobre el uso de esta técnica en los siglos XVIII y XIX se procede al análisis iconográfico de los papeles pintados en la torre alavesa, identificando las fuentes literarias y visuales que los inspiran. La aportación más importante de este trabajo es la identificación de los temas mitológicos, inadvertidos hasta ahora por los estudiosos del conjunto monumental. Cabe destacar también algunas precisiones iconográficas sobre el tema de la caza.

    The aim of this article is the study of the wallpaper in the Varona Tower House. Fo- llowing some general points about the use of this technique in the 18th and 19th centu- ries, the iconography of the wallpaper in the tower house in Álava is analysed, identi- fying the literary and visual sources that inspire it. The most important contribution of this work is the identification of the mythological themes, undiscovered until now by studies of the building as a whole. It is worth highlighting some iconographic details regarding the theme of hunting.

    Artikulu honek Varonatarren dorreko paper pintatuak aztertzea du helburu. XVIII eta XIX. mendeetan teknika horren erabilerari buruzko ohar orokor batzuk egin ondoren, Arabako dorre horretan pintatutako paperen azterketa ikonogra- fikoa egiten da, horiek inspiratzen dituzten iturri literario eta bisualak identi- fikatuz. Lan honen ekarpen garrantzitsuena gai mitologikoen identifikazioa da, monumentu-multzoaren azterlariek orain arte ez baitiete erreparatu gai horiei. Azpimarratzekoak dira, era berean, ehizaren gaiari buruz egiten diren hainbat zehaztapen ikonografiko.
