Resumen de Organización e informatización del catastro de aludes de Andorra

P. Ferrer, G. Furdada, Joan Manuel Vilaplana Fernández

  • During 1996 and 1997 winters, great snow avalanches occurred in Andorra. In 1998, the Andorra Government decided to integrate and homogenise all the existent data about avalanches in the country. The Departament de Geodinämica i Geofisica (Universität de Barcelona) was put in charge of the development of the Andorra Avalanche Cadastre and its organisation into an informatic system.

Avalanche Cadastre contains geographic information and descriptive data. Geographic information includes all kind of cartographic documents, as avalanche paths maps (made from aerial photointerpretation, fieldwork and inhabitants interviews, as in the classic French method).

Descriptive data include avalanche path descriptions and information about frequency and type of avalanches.

To manage all o f Avalanche Cadastre information, GIS (Geographic Information System) appears to be the most suitable tool. We chose to implement the Andorra Avalanche Cadastre into ARC/ INFO-Arcview GIS. Arcview is visualisation software to easily manage and query georeferenced information, which allows developing specific applications. A new specific application to easily manage and query the Avalanche Cadastre is developed.
