    El trabajo profundiza en la construcción, producción y formación de las categorías étnicas en América Latina a lo largo de la historia. Se postula que desde los primeros años del descubrimiento de América los conquistadores españoles fueron construyendo una frontera que se tradujo en términos de civilización y barbarie. A medida que avanzaba la colonización, estas fronteras entre civilización y barbarie se fueron redefiniendo y continuaron siendo funcionales a los diferentes objetivos de la clase gobernante. Así, la formación de categorías étnicas se fue extendiendo a lo largo del tiempo en respuesta a las diferentes etapas históricas y a sus intereses. Finalmente se analiza la conformación del estado nacional argentino y se muestra la forma en que las fronteras trazadas desde temprano por los colonizadores españolesse proyectaron en la etapa republicana y continúan hasta la actualidad.

    The article studies in depth the construction, production and formation of the ethnic categories in Latin America throughout history. It is postulated that from the first years of the discovery of America, the Spanish were constructing a border that was translated in terms of civilization and barbarism. As colonization advanced, these borders between civilization and barbarism were redefined and continued being functional to the different objectives of the governing.This way, the formation of the ethnic categories was extending throughout time in answer to the different historical stages and their interests. Finally, the conformation of the Argentinenational State is analyzed and it is shown the way in which the borders drawn up by the Spanish were projected in the republican stage as well as they continue to the present time.
