Indagini archeologiche tra il Canale Trasverso e l’Episcopio. Osservazioni preliminari sulle fasi post-classiche di Porto

    Nel seguente contributo sono riportati sinteticamente i risultati delle indagini archeologiche preventive effettuate tra il 2015 e il 2016 su di un’area sita in Via Portuense nelle immediate vicinanze dell’Episcopio. Nonostante l’esiguità dell’area indagata e la parzialità dei risultati ad oggi raggiunti, è stato tuttavia possibile tracciare alcune delle caratteristiche peculiari delle stratificazioni che contraddistinsero quest’area della Civitas Flavia Costantiniana Portuensis tra tardo antico e alto medioevo. Un primo intervento di ristrutturazione dei magazzini di età imperiale è documentato dal ripristino dei setti murari in opera reticolata e laterizia, mediante la realizzazione di una maglia coerente di vani realizzati in opera listata che talvolta inglobano quelli della fase precedente. Le stratigrafie individuate in alcuni degli ambienti indagati hanno restituito al loro interno livelli di frequentazione compresi tra il IV e l’VIII secolo d.C. con una evidente continuità durante gli anni delle guerre Greco Gotiche.

    An archaeological investigation between Transverse Channel and Episcopio. Preliminary remarks on post-classical phases of Porto. The following contribution summarizes the results of some preventive surveys carried out in Via Portuense between 2015 and 2016, an area embedded in an East-West axis between Episcopio Portuense and Canale Trasverso and in the North-South between the hexagonal basin and Fossa Traiana. Despite the small size of the area under investigation and the partiality of the results achieved until today it was nevertheless possible to trace some of the peculiar characteristics of the stratifications that distinguished this area of the Civitas Flavia Costantiniana Portuensis between the late ancient and early Middle Ages. A first renovation of the Horrea of the imperial age is documented by the restoration of mural elements in opus reticulatum and opus testaceum by creating a coherent mesh of rooms made up of opus vittatum which sometimes incorporate those of the previous phase. Some of the environments investigated reproduced within traces of attendance between the fourth and eighth-ninth century AD with a clear and evident continuity during the centuries of the Gothic War.
