Resumen de Low-Dimensional Semiconductors for Nanoelectronics and Nanophotonics

Raúl José Martín Palma, José Manuel Martínez Duart

  • This chapter provides a general introduction to the main contents of the book. First, the current trends in semiconductor devices are presented, because these constitute the basis for the growing fields of nanoelectronics and nanophotonics. Next, a number of basic definitions regarding mesoscopic physics are introduced. The physical basis of low-dimensional solids, i.e., quantum wells (2D), quantum wires (1D), and quantum dots (0D), as well as the significant concepts of the corresponding density of state functions, is also described.
