After a brief review of the effects of magnetic fields on bulk structures, this chapter discusses the transport properties of low-dimensional structures under magnetic fields. Within this context, the key practical consequences of the application of magnetic fields to two-dimensional electron systems are presented, including the Aharonov–Bohm, Shubnikov–de Haas, and quantum Hall effects.
