Antoine d'Abbadie, eminent scientific personality of the nineteenth century, known for his work in astronomy, geodesy, linguistics and for his exploration of Ethiopia, also took a strong interest in meteorology, which made him contribute to the founding of the French Meteorological Society in 1852. His stay in Ethiopia, between 1838 and 1848, allowed him to collect a wide range of meteorological observations, particularly on the dynamics and climatology of rainfall and thunderstorms. This article traces the path of the scientist and presents his observations by putting them in the double perspective of past and present knowledge

Antoine d'Abbadie, personnalité scientifique éminente du XIXe siècle, connu pour ses travaux en astronomie, géodésie, linguistique et pour son exploration de l'Éthiopie, a également porté un fort intérêt à la météorologie, contribuant à la fondation de la Société météorologique de France en 1852. Son séjour éthiopien, entre 1838 et 1848, lui a permis de collecter un large éventail d'observations météorologiques, notamment sur la dynamique et la climatologie des pluies et des orages. Cet article retrace le parcours du scientifique et présente ses observations en les mettant dans la double perspective des connaissances de l'époque et actuelles.
