The author presents an unpublished pontifical (Fano, Archivio Diocesano, nº 6) dating from the beginning of the fourteenth century; its decoration can be ascribed to the workshop of Neri da Rimini. The first part of the article is study of the style of the opening illumination, with figures of Prophets in two bas-de-page medallions. Notwithstanding some repainting of its historiated scene, the page can clearly be attibuted to a clese collaborator of Neri. As is evident from comparisons with some of his dated work from the early 1300s, this is likely to have been illuminated in the very first years of the century. The second part of the article casts light on the history and provenanace of the pontifical: although recorded in the inventory of the Fano Cathedral Chapter in 1500, it was not originally executed for the Marchigian city but was perhaps brought there by Giacomo I, Bishop of Fano (d. 1312)
