Resumen de Espacio antropológico de indígenas peruanos. Características de su lengua y su cultura

Isabel Serra Pfennig

  • In the present anthropologic, historiographical and linguistic study we present an overview of Dominican friars in Chile and Argentina. The Dominican friars, along with their evangelising and preaching work were in addition concerned with the conservation of documentary sources and with translation work in the missions. As the Dominicans who settled in those regions of Chile and Argentina were so numerous, we will only mention those who stood out for their philological and translator work. The site of the first Dominican foundation in Chilean lands was Our Lady of the Rosary, in Santiago de Chile, while in Argentina the first settlement was built in the present city of San Miguel de Tucumán. From these locations we will learn not only about the work of the missionaries at the time of exercising their ministries of preaching and teaching but also about the evangelisation of indigenous peoples and the contact among cultures.
