El Escudo de la más constante fe y lealtad de Vizcaya fue el libro que se imprimió en Bilbao por iniciativa de la Diputación del Señorío en 1762. Después de la edición con amplio estudio introductorio de 2015, tuvo lugar en el Parlamento Vasco una presentación en la que presentábamos una aproximación a los «misterios» del libro. En este artículo se da un paso más por la vía de llevar a cabo una lectura entre líneas que aborda aspectos que en el Escudo no aparecen con la debida claridad. Se vuelve al problema de la autoría y de las vías que se siguieron para la publicación, pero se presta especial atención a lo que, entre líneas, se puede decir de la parte cuarta del libro, del régimen de protectorado, del mecanismo de concesión del uso, y, finalmente, de las 852 notas y miles de citas contenidas en aquellas.

The book titled Escudo de la más constante fe y lealtad de Vizcaya (Shield of the most constant faith and loyalty of Biscay) was printed in Bilbao on the initiative of the Council of Biscay in 1762. After the edition of 2015, with an extensive introductory study, a presentation took place in the Basque Parliament in which we presented an attempt to explain the «mysteries» of the book. In this article a further step is taken which involves a reading between lines to address issues within the Escudo that lack the required clarity. We return to the problem of authorship and the manner in which the publication took place, but special attention is paid to what, reading between the lines, can be said about the fourth part of the book, the protectorate regime, the mechanism for the concession for use, and, finally, the 852 notes and thousands of citations included in the text.

Escudo de la más constante fe y lealtad de Vizcaya izeneko liburua Bilbon argitaratu zen 1762an, Bizkaiko Diputazioaren ekimenez. 2015ean beste edizio bat argitaratu zen, sarrerako azalpen zabal batekin, eta ondoren aurkezpen bat egin genuen Eusko Legebiltzarrean, liburuaren «misterioen» lehen azalpen bat emateko asmoz. Artikulu honen bidez beste urrats bat egin nahi dugu liburuan behar bezain argi ageri ez diren alderdi batzuen lerro arteko irakurketa egiteko bidean.
Egilearen nortasunaren arazoa lantzen da berriro, eta argitaratzeko erabilitako bideak jorratzen dira, baina arreta berezia eskaintzen zaio liburuaren laugarren zatiari, protektoratuaren araubideari eta erabilera-emakidari buruz lerro artean esan daitekeenari, bai eta, azkenik, 852 oharrei eta horietan jasotako milaka aipamenei ere.
