  • The opportunity to visit a local exhibition illustrated that many careers are available in science and engineering, which is rarely considered when the focus in schools so often points to the demands of examinations. An event close to school was not to be missed. Students were treated to displays and demonstrations showing how particle accelerators work, illustrated lectures concerning lasers at X-ray frequency and a talk linking these modern technologies with school science. Meeting scientists working in a range of disciplines should encourage students to pursue careers in science.
