    Guillermo de Gellone, caballero y monje, fue uno de los santos más venerados de la clase aristocrática durante el período feudal. Su fortuna se debe, en primer lugar, a la defensa del ideal caballeresco por parte de la Iglesia entre los siglos XI y XII y, en segundo lugar, a la difusión de las chansons de geste, que lo homenajeaban como un héroe épico. Por lo tanto la gran difusión de su culto significó una fusión entre la hagiografía oficial y la épica caballeresca.

    Saint William of Gellone, knight and monk, was one of the most venerated saints of the aristocratic class during the Age of Feudalism. The fortune of the saint is first of all due to the affirmation of the chivalric ideal promoted by the Church between the 11th and 12th centuries, and in second place to the spread of the chansons de geste, which celebrated William as an epic hero. Therefore, the great diffusion of his cult meant a merger between official hagiography and epic chivalry.
