Resumen de Making a health and safety intervention

Matt Byatt

  • In the UK, health and safety awareness on building sites has improved substantialy in the past 10-15 years. However, we can all still do more to ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of their working day and that we do not adversely affect the environment in which we are working. A key tool in improving health and safety ourcomes is interventio.

This Business Practice Note presents guidance and tools that can be used to intervene effectively to stop unsafe behaviours, hopefully preventing injuries, fatalities and environmental damage.

Within the offshore oil and gas sector (and others, such as nuclear and rail), it is common to have clear written policies on intervention, which are backed up by a "top-down" culture. The advice in this note is based on a system used by existing oil and gas operators. There are many other policies and systems in use, bat the following gives a good esambple of a working intervention strategy that xould be successfully adopted in most construction environments.
