    El presente texto aborda la función narrativa y simbólica del espacio y de la memoria en la película Nueve cartas a Berta (Basilio Martín Patino, 1967). En la gestión del espacio destaca la presencia de la ciudad de Salamanca, eje espacial donde se desarrolla la mayor parte de la trama, y de Inglaterra, ausente en la diégesis. La primera asume la función de simbolizar el ambiente claustrofóbico en el que vive el protagonista y la segunda, el recuerdo de un mundo exterior vivido y perdido. Al mismo tiempo, ambas ciudades se asocian a las dos memorias presentes en el film: la memoria oficial de los vencedores en la Guerra Civil y la memoria del exilio intlectual

    The present text addresses the narrative and symbolic function of space and memory in the film Nueve cartas a Berta (Basilio Martín Patino, 1967). The main element in the configuration of the filmic space is the city of Salamanca, spatial axis where most of the plot is developed, and England, absent in the diegesis. The former has the function of symbolizing the claustrophobic environment in wich the protagonist lives and the latter represents the memory of an external world lived and lost. At the same time, both cities are associated with the two memories present in the film: the official memory of the victors in the Civil War and the memory of intellectual exile.
