    En Agosto de 1923, el asedio a los blocaos de Tifaruin volvió a centrar la atención nacional en la problemática militar del Rif. Evidenciaba la debilidad de los destacamentos fáciles de aislar y la urgencia de una importante expedición de socorro, fuertemente armada y bien planificada, que fuese capaz de romper el cerco. En su corto periodo de servicio en África, sobre el capitán Pedro Rodríguez Almeida, nacido en Villar de Ciervo, recayó la respondabilidad de sostener la posición y hacia él se dirigieron los agradecimientos y homenajes que recompensaban un heroísmo forzado y no buscado, una ejemplaridad nacida del cumplimiento del deber en circunstancias impuestas. La reflexión crítica de los intelectuales plasmó las debilidades económicas y sociales que dificultaban o imposibilitaban tanto el control militar del territorio como la capacidad para modernizar y mejorar las condiciones de vida de los nativos.

    The siege of the Tifaruin "forts" (blocaos), wich had no access to water, turned attention once more to the military problems of the Rif. It made clear the weakness of the detachments, wich were easy to isolate, and the dual consequence of this: the need for internal leadership to encourage resistance and the urgent need for an important aid expedition, strongly armed and well planned, that would be able to break the siege. In his short period of service in Africa, Pedro Rodriguez Almeida had to shoulder the responsability for maintaining their position, and he was recipient of much gratitude and tributes that rewarded his heroism, though it had been unsought and forced on him; he became an exemplary model because he had fulfilled his duty whem the circunstances required it. The critical reflection or intellectuals captured the economic and social weaknesses that not only made military control of this territory difficult or impossible, but also made it impossible to modernize and improve the living conditions of the natives.
