This article is based on a rereading of the concepts of form, gesture and totality developed by Georg Lukács in relation with his proposal to think and to question the concrete and situated reality, socially focalized, without metaphysical nor essentialist constructs. In this way, the text explores the notion of gesture as a deep, vital and concrete questioning that finally leads to discern the totality as a vision of the one and the multiple insofar as a political open project and still to be realized. In a second moment, the case of Stuart Hall is presented at the beginning of the cultural studies and in the English context of the New Left as an example of that gesture for totality.
