  La multifuncionalidad de los sistemas rurales europeos abre una polémica dialéctica entre mercado e identidad que se analiza en este documento. Observando sus límites y oportunidades para cambiar el signo de las grandes transformaciones sufridas por estos sistemas, proponemos un enfoque de integración paisajística en la gestión de la transición hacia sistemas sostenibles. Este debate y esta propuesta teórica se contrastan con el estudio de caso de la Reserva de la Biosfera Transfronteriza Meseta Ibérica (RBTMI), que documenta, por un lado, la transformación en los paisajes de la Raya hispano-portuguesa al noroeste de España y al noreste de Portugal; y, por otro, el potencial instrumental para el desarrollo sostenible del reconocimiento por parte de la UNESCO de la RBTMI. Finalmente, se esboza un plan de gestión estratégica para la cooperación transfronteriza hacia la sostenibilidad basado en dinámicas de redes de paisaje de los sistemas rurales que comprende la RBTMI.

  The multifunctionality of European rural systems opens a controversial dialectic between market and identity that is analyzed in this document, observing its limits and opportunities to change the sign of the great transformations suffered by these systems; We propose a landscape integration approach in managing the transition to sustainable systems. This debate and this theoretical proposal are contrasted with the case study of the Meseta Ibérica Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (RBTMI), which documents, on the one hand, the transformation in the landscapes of the Spanish-Portuguese Raya to the northwest of Spain and the northeast of Portugal; and, on the other hand, the instrumental potential for the sustainable development of UNESCO' s recognition of the RBTMI. Finally, a strategic management plan for transfrontier cooperation towards sustainability based on landscape network dynamics of the rural systems included in the RBTMI is outlined.
