    Aunque la carta familiar ha estado sometida a pocas reglas, desde la Antigüedad los preceptistas y los epistológrafos no han podido evitar recomendar algunas normas que han contribuido a definir su naturaleza. Este artículo realiza un recorrido histórico de la consideración teórica que ha tenido la carta familiar hasta mediados del siglo XIX y analiza los elementos característicos que la han singularizado: los corresponsales, las temáticas, el estilo y la forma.

    Although the family letter has been subjected to few rules, since antiquity preceptists and epistologists have not been able to avoid recommending some norms that have contributed to define their nature. This article takes a historical tour of the theoretical consideration of the family letter up to the middle of the nineteenth century and analyzes the characteristic elements that have singled it out: the correspondents, the themes, the style and form.
