Based on the review of the material of the genus Plagiolepis present in the collection of ants of the Department of Zoology of the University of Granada is put in evidence the presence of P. taurica in almost half of the previously identified as P. schmitzii specimens. We include the synonyms which have resulted after this misidentification. The distribution of both species in the Iberian Peninsula appears coincidental at especially arid locations of the Iberian Southeast despite P. taurica seems to have a northernmost general distribution. This suggests that P. taurica either has a wide range ecological or, in these species of small size, the microclimate can explain these apparent geographical coexistences.
