  Women have been, for a long time, marginalized from the formal labor market, being assigned the responsibility of taking care of the household and of the children. To men it was assigned the responsibility of providing for the home and acting on the public sphere. The discipline of History itself has often focused on men to explain the economic, cultural, social, religious and political processes which permeate society. A lot has changed, but society still evidently reserves places for men while others remain exclusive for women. In this paper, the subject of gender was considered within a larger historiographic research framework aiming at understanding Rádio Federal FM’s history, focusing on the craft of broadcaster and the changes it underwent in order to survive the new technologies, as well as their impact on these professional’s daily lives. This research has revealed that radio is a primarily male environment. That being the case, a more profound look at women’s participation in radio is in order, specially at Rádio Federal FM, identifying women that work or have worked at the station and the difficulties they have faced while trying to make room for themselves. This paper is based on the methodology of oral history, and aims at analyzing and understanding the trajectory of these working women.

  A mulher foi, por muito tempo, colocada à margem do mundo do trabalho formal, sendo de sua responsabilidade o cuidado da casa e dos filhos. Já ao homem cabia o papel de chefe do lar e a esfera pública. A própria história focou por muito tempo nos homens para explicar os processos econômicos, culturais, sociais, políticos e religiosos que permeiam a sociedade. Muita coisa mudou, mas é evidente que a sociedade ainda mantém lugares reservados aos homens e outros que são quase exclusivos das mulheres. O tema de gênero foi pensado dentro de uma pesquisa historiográfica maior que tem por objetivo pesquisar a história da Rádio Federal FM, a partir do ofício de radialista e das transformações pelas quais passou para sobreviver às novas tecnologias, bem como o impacto no cotidiano desses profissionais. Esta pesquisa revelou que o rádio é um ambiente prioritariamente masculino. Sendo assim, torna-se importante um estudo mais aprofundado sobre a participação da mulher dentro do rádio, em especial da Rádio Federal FM, identificando as mulheres que trabalham e trabalharam na emissora e as dificuldades que passaram em busca de espaço. O estudo apresentado utilizará como principal metodologia a história oral, de forma a analisar e compreender a trajetória dessas trabalhadoras
