Resumen de Conte-me quem sou: a fundação da identidade de Novo Hamburgo

  The beginning of the twentieth century boosted the creation of countless cities based on the key idea of modernity. This process strengthened the delimitation of cultural differences and similarities, establishing which models those new locations should follow or dismiss while building their identity. Very often, the allegations in this speech were laid down by groups who had socioeconomic power, and at some moments, such processes arose from immigrants and their descendants, as in the specific case of Novo Hamburgo city. These groups fostered elements of identity from the newspaper “O 5 de Abril”. Identifying the foundations of local identity coming from the affirmation process of the city helps understanding the representations of the world, as a historic process. The content analysis methodology was used in order to study these cultural elements, and applied to the first five months of publication of “O 5 de Abril” – issues printed between May and September, 1927. The research focus has been the detection of the local identity foundation, from the newspaper discourse; and it can be observed that the main narrative elements used in “O 5 de Abril” seek to strengthen the idea of a local identity marked by individual work and collective growth

  O início do século XX impulsionou a criação de inúmeras cidades com base na ideia força da modernidade. Esse processo intensificou a demarcação de diferenças e semelhanças culturais, demonstrando o que as novas localidades deveriam seguir ou negar em sua formação identitária. Os argumentos desse discurso, muitas vezes, eram determinados pelos grupos sociais que detinham o poder socioeconômico ou tradicional nessas cidades, sendo que, em vários momentos, esses processos constituíram-se por imigrantes ou por seus descendentes, como no caso de Novo Hamburgo. Tais grupos fomentaram elementos identitários a partir do jornal “O 5 de Abril”. Identificar as bases fundadoras da identidade local advindas desse processo de afirmação da cidade, auxilia na compreensão das representações de mundo, enquanto processo histórico. Para analisar esses elementos culturais utilizou-se a metodologia da análise de conteúdo, aplicada sobre os primeiros cinco meses de publicação do “O 5 de Abril” – edições entre maio e setembro de 1927 – o foco da pesquisa recaiu sobre a identificação das bases fundadoras da identidade local a partir do discurso do jornal. Verifica-se que os principais elementos narrativos utilizados pelo “O 5 de Abril” procuram reforçar a ideia de uma identidade local marcada pelo trabalho individual e progresso coletivo
