    La presente investigación es una revisión histórica que va desde la llegada del vasco Julián Cendoya Echeverría a Cuba hasta su consolidación como comerciante. El objetivo planteado fue analizar los aspectos que le permitieron a Julián Cendoya Echeverría ganarse un lugar respetable en el desarrollo del comercio santiaguero. La metodología empleada fue la realización de un estudio historiográfico, retrospectivo y transversal de la influencia de Cendoya en el desarrollo comercial santiaguero. Tanto el objetivo planteado como la metodología, unida a otras técnicas de investigación nos permiten plantear como principales resultados, que dadas las actividades que inicialmente realiza Cendoya en la ciudad, surge la idea de insertarse comercialmente en ella. Se detalla que luego de la ocupación yanqui este vasco colabora para adaptar el comercio santiaguero a los nuevos cambios. Se muestra como desde la Cámara de Comercio, Cendoya contribuye a la toma de decisiones referentes a la actividad económica. La investigación revela que independientemente a su quehacer en la actividad comercial no se limitó a un solo rubro, incursionó también en la plantación de la caña de azúcar y las finanzas. Se concluye plantando que la participación de Cendoya en el comercio fue decisivo para el desarrollo de Santiago

    The present investigation is a historical review that goes from the arrival of the Basque Julian Cendoya Echeverría to Cuba until its consolidation as a merchant. The objective was to analyze the aspects that allowed Julian Cendoya Echeverría to gain a respectable place in the development of the trade of Santiago de Cuba. The methodology used was the realization of a historiographic, retrospective and transversal study of the influence of Cendoya in the commercial development of Santiago. Both the objective set as. Both the proposed objective and the methodology, together with other research techniques allow us to consider the main results, that given the activities that Cendoya initially performs in the city, the idea of inserting itself commercially into it arises. It is detailed that after the Yankee occupation this Basque collaborates to adapt the trade of Santiago to the new changes. It is shown as from the Chamber of Commerce, Cendoya contributes to making decisions regarding economic activity. The investigation reveals that independently of his work in the commercial activity he did not limit himself to a single item, he also ventured into the sugarcane plantation and finances. We conclude by stating that Cendoya's participation in trade was decisive for the development of Santiago
