  Peter Pan toma su nombre del dios Pan, un dios con dos facetas que son opuestas entre sí. Por un lado, es el dios de la pesadilla, violador de ninfas y causante de los temores irracionales. Por otro, es el dios de los pastores y la naturaleza, que alterna sus siestas con el disfrute de la música y del baile. El escritor escocés James M. Barrie se fijó principalmente en esta faceta arcádica del dios para moldear a su personaje, que rápidamente se convertiría en un mito moderno que representa la alegría de la infancia y la eterna juventud. Pero el personaje de Barrie, bajo su aparente inocencia, está atravesado por fuertes tensiones entre su faceta infantil y un lado más oscuro. Estas tensiones lo dotan de cierta maleabilidad, lo que ha hecho que sean varios los escritores y cineastas que han querido resucitar este lado siniestro del personaje. En este artículo veremos cómo este lado oscuro del mito eterno se hace patente en algunas adaptaciones del cine contemporáneo, confiriendo mayor complejidad al mito, así como mayor profundidad y potencia artística.

  Peter Pan is named after the god Pan, a god who has two sides which are opposite to each other. On the one hand, he is the god of nightmares, a rapist of nymphs and the cause of irrational fears. On the other, he is the god of shepherds and nature, who alternates his naps with the enjoyment of music and dance. The Scottish writer James M. Barrie focused mainly on this Arcadian aspect of the god to shape his character, which quickly became a modern myth that represents the joy of childhood and eternal youth. But Barrie's character, under his apparent innocence, is crossed by tensions between its childish side and a darker facet. These tensions give a certain malleability, which has prompted a number of writers and filmmakers to resurrect this character's sinister side. In this article we will see how this dark side of the eternal child is evident in some adaptations of contemporary cinema, contributing to complicate the myth providing it with greater depth and artistic power.
