    El objetivo de este estudio es analizar las técnicas usadas para subvertir el mito del Diluvio en "The Stowaway", primer capítulo de “A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters” (1989). de Julian Barnes. La teoría de Lyotard sobre la crisis de las Grandes Narrativas sirve para mostrar como Bames cuestiona y subvierte el relato bíblico situando una carcoma como deslegitimadora de los discursos canónicos. Desde una posición periférica. este narrador no solo critica el relato bíblico, sino que también da su propia versión, llenando los vacios que el relato bíblico deja en blanco e incluso añade materiales extra, dotándolo de un tono humorístico ausente en el texto original. Así pues, los márgenes enriquecen el centro y también incluyen referencias a hechos más recientes como el Holocausto. Finalmente, se propone un modelo básico para el estudio de los diferentes niveles de significación involucrados en la creación de un mito. La distinción entre los diferentes niveles y la subversión del mito se basa en el concepto clave de legitimación.

    The aim of this study is to analyse the techniques used to subvert the myth of the Flood in ''The Stowaway", the first chapter in A History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters ( 1989), by Julian Barnes. Lyotard's theory about the crisis of the Grand Narratives is uscd to show how bíblica! discourse is questioned and subverted by Barnes. who places a woodworm to delegitimize the canonical discourses. Prom its peripheral position, this narrator not only criticises the biblical version but also gives an account of its own by filling the blanks ofthe bíblica! account and it even adds some extra material, including a humoristic tone that the original tcxl lacks. Thus, the margins enrich the centre and even include references to more modero events, namely thc Holocaust. Finally, there is a proposal of a basic model to study the different levels of signification involved in the creation of a myth. This distinction between the different levels and thc subversion of the myth is based on the key concept of legitimacy.
