Resumen de Pynchon's Maas: subversion or polyphonic echoing and mirroring of myth

Mito y subversión son inherentes a la novela de Thomas Pynchon “La subasta del lote 49”. En esta novela norteamericana contemporánea, el mito clásico de Edipo se refleja en la protagonista, Edipa Maas, con su inversión de género o subversión. Además, vemos en las relaciones que Edipa mantiene con su esposo, Mucho Maas, y con otros hombres, el reflejo o eco de otros mitos de la Antigüedad clásica, tales como el mito de Narciso y el de Electra, que a su vez parece subvertir, o fundirse a veces, con el mito de Edipo. La musicalidad del lenguaje o su aspecto sonoro, parece adoptar los principios estructurales del mito, mientras que el nivel del contenido o aspecto de sentido del lenguaje espeja y subvierte los contenidos míticos. El presente artículo busca dilucidar la función y el significado de las subversiones al operar de manera unida o de manera antagónica con la finalidad estética de la creación artística.

Myth and subversion are inherent to the very essence of Thomas Pynchon's the “Crying of Lot 49”. In this contemporary American novel, the Classical Oedipus myth is reflected in the protagonist, Oedipa Maas, with ils gender inversion or subversion. Furthermore, in the relationships that Oedipa maintains with her husband, Mucho Maas, and her male acquaintances. we see the mirroring or echoing of other Classical myths, such as Narcissus and Electra, which in tum seems to subvert, or blend with, the Oedipus myth at times. The musicality of language or its sound aspect echoes and seems to adopt the structural principles of myth, while the content level or sense aspect of language mirrors and subverts the mythical contents. The present article intends to elucidate the function and meaning of the subversions in their working together. or against each other, with the aesthetic aim of artistic creation.
