  • La celebración de San Juan Bautista en Chuao es una manifestación de carácter estético, puesto que todos los haceres ejecutados y los elementos plásticos presentes existen en función de inducir el momento de mayor euforia del rito: la conjunción del sujeto devoto con el objeto de devoción, San Juan, la cual es por su naturaleza una experiencia mística. Se pretende aquí establecer una relación de semejanza entre la conjunción semiótica y la experiencia estética, vista como una vivencia mística, y así determinar el rasgo caracterizante de la manifestación religiosa en cuestión.AbstractThe Saint John the Baptist celebration in Chuao is an aesthetic phenomenon, for all actions performed and the plastic elements present exist with the aim of bringing about the moment of highest euphoria proper to this rite: the conjunction between the devotee and the object of devotion, Saint John–which, because of its nature, constitutes a mystical experience. This paper intends to establish relation of similarity between semiotic conjunction and aesthetic experience qua mystical experience (on the basis of the Aesthetic Theory in Capriles [2000]), and in this way determine the distinctive characteristic of this religious manifestation.
