Seung-Schik Yoo of Harvard Medical School and colleagues have created a system that connects a human to a rat via a computer, with no need for brain implants at all. With improvements, Yoo claims, it should one day be possible for two humans to use a similar system. Ricardo Chavarriaga at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne says that while the set-up is a good use of two technologies, linking them will not be meaningful until the human's intention corresponds to the rat's action
