    Muchos historiadores han estudiado las pinturas del IX Almirante de Castilla (1597-1647), conocidas por el inventario de sus bienes, y han identificado varias que se han conservado. Aportamos algunas más y de otras desaparecidas desvelamos sus autores, asuntos, procedencias y trayectorias posteriores. Se sabía además por una conocida memoria de Velázquez que el Almirante, al regresar de su virreinato napolitano en 1646, regaló tres cuadros a Felipe IV que el pintor llevó años más tarde a El Escorial, pero hubo al menos otros diez, de los cuales instaló ocho en el Salón de los Espejos del Alcázar.

    Many historians have studied the paintings of the 9th Admiral of Castile (1597-1647), known by his inventory of goods, and have identified several preserved. We provide some more, and about others which have disappeared we reveal their authors, themes, origins and later trajectories. Also it was known through a well-known memory of Velázquez that, after his return as viceroy of Naples in 1646, the Admiral gave three paintings to Philip IV which the painter carried years later to El Escorial, but there were at least ten more, and he installed eight of them in the Hall of Mirrors in the Alcázar.
